A robot vacuum is the best tool to maintain an orderly home. It can remove dust, pet hair, and other surface debris.

Some robots sync with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that can recharge and resume cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot s8

This smart robot vacuum and mop combo is a great choice for many homes. It has a great navigation system with GPS and laser sensors. It also has a lot of features and control options that can be accessed through the app. It also comes with a useful feature that lets you create Cleaning zones for specific areas that require extra attention, and also to keep Out zones where you don't want it to move. It also gets software updates, similar to all Roomba products, that enhance it over time.

It's costly but it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has tested. It has a powerful battery that can sweep the entire house in less than two hours. It also switches between vacuuming and mopping at the push of the button. It automatically empties the dust bin above its charging station, unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the bin after each run.

It also has many other options, like intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses a camera along with processor-powered smarts in order to detect obstacles. It's rarely tripped up or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests, it was the best at avoiding objects like power cables. However, it's not as reliable at detecting pet waste and other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Eufy is owned by Anker is now a household name in the world of budget robot vacuums. But it didn't offer the option of a model that could mop. That changes with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features and can compete well against much more expensive models.

The laser navigation is the most important feature of this machine. Previous Eufy devices have created an outline of your home utilizing infrared sensors and bumping into things, but the X8's laser mapping technology is more precise. It takes less time to create an extensive map of your home. It also has the ability to store multiple maps. This is great for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. The Tyres of the X8, despite their circular shape, are very good at grabbing edges and corners. Our tests revealed that it could only remove 90% of the fur on hard floors.

The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. This is ideal for spills that aren't serious, but you can't limit the amount of water it consumes. That said, it does an excellent job of removing pet hair, and has a higher percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

The company is known for its quiet home appliances Miele's RX2 robot vacuum has excellent cleaning power, beautiful design, and a great navigation. However, it has some operational issues that keep it from ranking as the best overall smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technology which uses LIDAR to map a room and a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room has been mapped it is possible to assign virtual no-go zones and favorite sections to the robot. You can also manually change cleaning options, begin cleaning manually, or view live feeds from the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping power are top-of-the-line, picking up surface litter from carpets with medium piles and dust on floors that are unfinished. It's not the fastest robot on the market. Like many others, it's not a good climber and has trouble with things like thresholds made of steel transition strips.

Some people buy robot vacuums for the convenience of setting up a schedule using an app, and then forgetting about them for weeks. It's important for a robot capable of the task and that's why our ZDNet staff has compared and reviewed some of the most popular models to help you pick the right one for your house.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that is similar to other, but comes with several more features and better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses them to navigate and avoid obstacles. It can even detect common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real time. This combination of sensors with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum off stairs makes it one of our most flexible vacuums.

It was able to walk over thick shag carpets and didn't get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690-). Its navigation skills were impressive. Its composite score for flooring and carpet beat the competition, and it picked up 98.5% of surface litter and embedded dog hair from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are simpler than the competitors. There's an uniform cleaning button on the top. You can access it via the app or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for daily or weekly cleans, set areas that are not allowed to be cleaned, and check the history of its cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. Its rear dustbin is easily accessible for emptying, and taking out the filters is also easy.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a simple, no-frills robot vacuum at a low cost, the Eufy11S could be a good choice. The model isn't equipped with smart features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping found in higher-end models. If you do not need these features, you could save money.

This robot is simple to install and use. It does not require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does come with the ability to control the remote with a remote that lets you select different modes and adjust the suction level. You can also set up a manual schedule to assign the robotvac to the schedule of cleaning.

During our tests during our tests, the 11S was very effective at getting rid of pet hair and dirt from hard floors and in carpets with low pile. Its slim profile helped it get under furniture and other low items that more bulkier robots couldn't reach. It was also able to traverse door thresholds and change between floors and another.

The 11S, as with other robots, can also eat some objects, such as cords and cat toys. It also comes with more advanced automation features than many competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary markers with its mobile app. It's a capable robot vacuum, even if the application is a bit slow and the 980's wheels spin out when it comes across cables.

One thing we love about the 980 is the fact that it utilizes its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneous mapping and localisation technology (or vSLAM) to memorise the floor plan of your home. It then uses this information to design a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a more efficient vacuum than most competing high-end robot vacuums.

The 980's other features include two multi-surface rubber brushes which pick up dirt from hard floors and carpet as well as a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. The sensor for floor tracking helps it navigate through furniture, along edges and up steps. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It will automatically return to its base station for easy recharging between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size aren't quite as good as those of other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that will keep your floors clean for hours and hours.
